Moved into Granddaddy's House

Here is a picture (from a few years ago) of us and our Granddad, Ben Martin. He has opened his home up to us while we are in transition before making our move to Denver, Colorado in July 2009. We are thankful for his willingness to allow us to stay with him.

Another update:

We received approval by the Secretary of the State for our 501(c)(3) Martin Mission. Now, we are waiting for approval by the IRS so our non-profit can be tax deductible. We will let you know when this takes place. Until it is completely setup, gifts/sponsorship for Martin Mission is being filtered through our church Life Gate Fellowship so our supporters can receive tax deductible documentation. If you would like more information email us or give us a call.

Why Now and Why Colorado?

These are two questions that many of you may be asking.
Well, we are at a time in our lives that we have to make some decisions. I (Wendy), am about to graduate in May from Texas Woman's University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Child Development and can choose many directions as to where I can use the knowledge I have obtained about families and children. Matthew was ready to begin something new to establish while we are still young and without children. Our first anniversary we bought a HUD home to remodel which is near completion and ready to rent or sale (thanks to my wonderfully gifted husband!). With all that said, we prayed what's next? One night we were sitting on our couch talking about what we would want to do for the rest of our lives if we could work as a team. Matthew began explaining what he could see us doing together in which both of our personalities, gifts, and talents would be used for the Lord. The vision was to create a safe place for families to live with affordable housing, job training, parent education, and an opportunity to succeed. As he was talking about it, I remembered my friend Charlotte (who lives in Denver) telling me about a place called Joshua Station which helps families. We contacted Charlotte, she sent us the website to Joshua Station http://www.joshuastation.com/, and we were amazed at how similar our vision was to Joshua Station. After we went through the website we could not stop thinking about it.. working, eating, sleeping thinking about the possibility that we could help families. We decided that if we are going to create a place that is successful at helping families, first it would be helpful to learn from a place that is already established and helping families. So, we contacted Joshua Station, visited with in two weeks, and truly felt called to go serve families in Denver @ Joshua Station. Now that you know how we got to this point, we can share what's going on now...
